When you search for a camera, you will find tons of options, but the main things you need to consider (or find out in the first place) are what you want to do with your camera? What is your budget, and what kind of photography are you going to use it for? Lifestyle, fashion, food, landscape, makeup, etc. You will find many camera options and there is no certain answer to which camera is the best, but if you know what you want to do, that will make the process a lot easier.
Now, if you already know that, we can get into more technical stuff. When you are considering buying a camera for blogging, you need to consider these things:
- Low-light performance – personally, this is crucial! If you ever go to a restaurant with a nice setting, beautifully garnished food, and an outfit you are proud of. But your camera does not take good photos in low light, it is a complete bummer! On a more technical note, if you are looking for a camera that performs good in low-light, you should pay attention to the sensor size and quality, which is probably the most important thing to consider when you are searching for the best blogging cameras out there
- Weight – whenever someone thinks about a professional photographer, we think about those big DSLR cameras (if you don’t know what a DSLR camera is, I’ll get into that next), but if like me, you are a traveler. You will want to have the least heavy suitcase possible and save space. Or if you are doing a hike or going out to explore the next city, you want your camera to be compact and light
- Viewfinder – for some people, it is actually not a big deal if you don’t have a viewfinder, but for me, having one can make things a million times better, especially if you want to take a photo of a landscape
- In-built flash – some cameras work amazingly in low-light, so you may not need a flash. But for some cameras, you will need to buy a flash separately. So, my best advice for you is, have a budget in mind and stick to your priorities when looking for the best cameras for bloggers
- Autofocus – I love good autofocus, there is nothing worse than missing the perfect, natural, and just spontaneous moment because of a blurry photo
- Image stabilization – this kind of goes with the last one. Sometimes it is impossible to stay still while you take a photo. Maybe you are in a moving vehicle, or having to walk fast. With a camera with good image stabilization, you can take advantage of these moments
Mirrorless vs Point and Shoot vs DSLR
If you get into the world of photography, you will find these names everywhere so it is better to know what they are and what each type of camera is good for.
Point-and-shoot
I find these as the easiest type to describe. A point-and-shoot camera is basically the kind of camera where you don’t need to worry about manually setting the aperture, or shutter speed and the focus as you would do on mirrorless or DSLR cameras. You just aim and press the button and the camera will do the rest. Don’t be fooled by this description, you can find very fine point-and-shoot blogging cameras.
DSLR
I am not a professional photographer but I will try to explain how these cameras work. They reflect the scene you see in the viewfinder with a mirror. When you click to take the photo, the mirror will move out of the way, the image will enter the sensor, and be stored in the memory card.
For this reason, when you download your photos on your computer, some won’t look as you saw them with the viewfinder. It will depend on the settings of the ISO, aperture or the lens type, etc.
Mirrorless
As you can imagine, these cameras don’t have mirrors. They are the cameras taking on the world nowadays. When you see them, they are similar to the DSLR cameras, but the main difference is that what you see on the viewfinder or LCD is what you get as a final result.
Bottom line, with a point-and-shoot camera you rely on the camera for everything but pointing the camera at a good scene and clicking. With a DSLR, you can use the same body with different types of lenses depending on what you need. If you are transitioning to a mirrorless and you want to continue using your DSLR lenses, you can get adapters. And, with a Mirrorless, you will have the advantage of looking in the viewfinder or LCD and what you see is exactly what you will get which gives you a chance to make adjustments before you take the photo. This can save you time when you edit your photos on your computer.
While that is also possible with a DSLR, it may be more difficult to clean up the photos due to the discrepancy between what you see in the viewfinder and what is exposed to the sensor when you click.

Nikon Z50
Nikon has described this camera to be used by users that don’t consider themselves professional photographers. Though this is a description that will be appealing to many of us out there, there are some ergonomic issues with this model that could get very annoying with time. Not to mention that if you want to include some vlogging into your future plans, you can forget about it if you want to use a tripod.
Don’t get me wrong, it is still a very capable camera. It feels good in the hand, offers a quality viewfinder, wireless connectivity, 4K video, and generally speedy operation, but if you are looking to shoot fast-moving objects or sports, this is not ideal for you.
In order to make this camera more compact than other Nikon cameras, they decided to use only six buttons against the 10 of the previous models. This is great for making the camera more compact for travels or long walks, but it is a little annoying because the buttons are very close to each other. As a result, you can push the wrong buttons.
If you were wondering what Nikon did with the missing buttons at the back of the camera, they added two touch buttons to the LCD screen. If you are looking to shoot in locations where you need to wear gloves, you have big hands, or you use your left eye for the viewfinder, this could be a little uncomfortable.
I think we can all live with the previous point, but if you are planning to add some vlogging in the future, you may have to consider twice about buying this camera. The camera does have a flipping screen for a selfie mode, but it flips on the way of the tripod! Meaning that you can only use the selfie mode if you want to take photos or shoot videos with your hand.

If you are here means that you already know that you can write great content. But if you don’t have great images on your blog that goes with your content, you will most likely get fewer viewers. So now that we have discussed my picks on the Best Blogging Cameras to Create Killer Content in 2021, we can discuss my two favorite editing software for bloggers.
But before we get into that, you should also decide if you want to shoot your photos on RAW or JPEG. Many professional photographers prefer RAW because it captures the most information and colors, giving them a wider range of possibilities when editing their photos. The thing is that these images need more storage space and bigger or several memory cards when you are shooting. With JPEG, you can easily send your photos to any device and do an easy edit ready to post. But with every edit, the quality of the photos decreases.
