Are you wondering where to stay in Bogota Colombia? If you’ve never visited, you may be unsure about the safest areas and best neighborhoods in Bogota. In this post, I’m sharing recommendations for tourist-friendly regions and the best hotels in Bogota. Whether you need affordable hostels in Bogota or want to splurge on a 5-star Bogota hotel, I have options for every budget.

As a solo traveler, I’m always conscious of where I stay while visiting a new city. Some areas of Bogota are safer than others, so researching every option is essential. Based on my experience living there, I’m familiar with the best area to stay in Bogota.

While I lived in Bogota, I encountered several unsafe situations, such as being robbed and pickpocketed. I don’t say this to put you off—quite the opposite. I’d return to Bogota tomorrow! However, I may have avoided some of these scary moments if I’d researched where to stay in Bogota before visiting.

Where to Stay in Bogota Colombia

If you will be in Bogota for more than a night, don’t stay in La Candelaria. I recommend solo travelers avoid this area. My advice may contradict what you read in guidebooks and hear from other backpackers. But are they women traveling solo, and have they lived in Bogota? Well, I have! I wish someone had told me this before living alone in La Candelaria for two months.

Best Area to Stay in Bogota

Usaquén, Chapinero, and Zona Rosa are the best neighborhoods in Bogota for tourists. You can quickly get public transport to La Candelaria to explore downtown. The nightlife in La Candelaria is okay, but it’s far better and safer in Chapinero and Zona Rosa.

When deciding where to stay in Bogota, the further north, the safer, and the further south, the more unsafe. Don’t go further south than La Candelaria.

Usaquén

This is the best area to stay in Bogota for foodies. The first time I was here, I was worried that it was too far north. However, the area is lovely, and there is much to do nearby. Usaquén is safe to wander around at night and has many delicious restaurants.

Chapinero

For a lively hipster area, Chapinero is an excellent choice. It’s safe to walk at night, with plenty of coffee shops and cool places to hang out. It’s also well-connected by public transport, making it easy to navigate the city.

Zona Rosa 

Zona Rosa is one of the best neighborhoods in Bogota for nightlife. There are numerous restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. While it can be noisy, it’s very safe.

Parque 93 

Parque 93 is the best place in Bogota for families. It’s where all the wealthy Colombians live, so there are many green spaces and a very relaxed atmosphere. You will find delicious eateries, and it’s close to Chapinero and Zona Rosa.

Teusaquillo  

Teusaquillo offers some of the top hostels in Bogota, making it ideal for backpackers. Accommodations are cheap, and you’ll be close to many top attractions. It’s also convenient for traveling to and from the airport.

Best Hotels in Bogota Colombia: Mid-Range

Hotel Morrison 114 – Usaquén

This is my top hotel Bogota pick. It’s in one of Bogota’s safest areas and is perfect for foodies. Most importantly, the hotel is lovely. I stayed here during my last visit to the city and was well looked after by the staff, who took the time to help me find the best local places to eat.

The bed was so comfortable I didn’t want to get up in the morning! It’s modern, clean, and feels incredibly fresh. My city view was spectacular, and I enjoyed my stay at this Bogota hotel. It is pretty north, but it only cost me 11,000 pesos (about USD 3.50) to get downtown using the Beat App.

The bonus about staying in Usaquén, where Hotel Morrison Bogota is located, is that there’s much to do at night. Numerous restaurants are within walking distance, and Unicentro Mall is 15 minutes away. Breakfast is included in your reservation, and parking is available free of charge.

Hotel Casona – Usaquén

Hotel Casona is one of the best budget hotels Bogota offers. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay—rooms with private bathrooms, hot water, and comfy beds. The communal spaces at Casona are well-maintained, and it has a distinct character you’ll enjoy exploring.

Hotel Living 55 – Zona Rosa

Despite the name, Hotel Living 55 is a complex of self-contained apartments. Each has a TV and a small kitchen with a microwave and refrigerator. The bathrooms are well-equipped, and the showers are powerful and hot, which is a must. Some of the apartments also have balconies and patios where you can enjoy city views.

The apartments offer traditional hotel perks, including a 24-hour front desk and room service. A delicious breakfast is also available for an additional fee. It’s no wonder Hotel Living 55 is consistently listed as one of the best Bogota Colombia hotels in Zona Rosa.

Hotel B3 Virrey – Chapinero

The terrace offers panoramic city views. The restaurant serves an international a la carte menu, the bar has an impressive drinks and snacks menu, and there’s also a top-notch fitness center. The front desk operates 24 hours a day, and a buffet breakfast is served daily. The spectacular self-catering condos feature kitchens, iControl, home theaters, and balconies.

Sofitel Bogota Victoria Regia – Chapinero

Located within walking distance of Zona T, Victoria Regia offers old-school luxury in an unbeatable location. Rooms are upscale, with feather duvets, 400-count sheets, and a pillow menu. The bathrooms are just as plush and include Hermes or Lanvin toiletries.

Selina – La Candelaria

Selina is a popular chain of hostels throughout Europe and the Americas. The La Candelaria property is one of the best hostels in Bogota. Its location is perfect for exploring the historic center, museums, galleries, and points of interest.

Socializing is central to Selina’s ethos—there is a yoga deck, movie room, BBQ facilities, and a beautiful garden. Digital nomads highly rate Selina hostels, as there are quiet spaces with strong WiFi to work.

The rooms resemble a boutique hotel rather than a budget hostel. Even the shared dorms are quirky, spacious, and welcoming.

Casa Artistica – La Candelaria

If you’re looking for a cheap room in a central location, Casa Artistica is the place. Bolivar Square is only a 20-minute walk, and there’s much history to enjoy around the hostel.

Rooms are private, but various sizes are available, ideal for traveling with friends or family. Each room has a cute patio with a beautiful city view, and a kettle and wardrobe are also provided.

Trip Monkey – Chapinero

This hostel is close to many cafes and restaurants in Bogota. It’s stylish, modern, and extremely comfortable. The dorm room bunk beds are comfy and provide plenty of privacy. Trip Monkey’s plush private rooms are bright and clean.

The common areas are beautifully decorated and ideal for socializing. There’s an on-site bar for cervezas, and the WiFi is excellent throughout the property. If you’re looking for budget hostels in Bogota, you can’t do much better than Trip Monkey.

Arche Noah Boutique Hostel – La Candelaria

This boutique hostel has cozy private rooms and bunk bed-free dorm rooms. The spacious terrace is the perfect place to catch some rays if you’re lucky enough to experience a sunny day in Bogota. Meanwhile, the indoor communal areas are excellent for relaxing and meeting other travelers.

With regards to my phone connection, I use e-sims while traveling, so rather than having to swap out my regular sim card I can download the app and buy a virtual sim card. I recommend using eitherAirhub or Alosim. Both have great coverage of multiple countries and are very easy to use.
